Amersfoort Regional Court sends two for murder of 20-year-old

Scelo Sicelumusa Kubheka and Mbuyiseni Ludrick Khoza were sentenced to life imprisonment.

The Amersfoort Regional Court sentenced Scelo Sicelumusa Kubheka (30) and Mbuyiseni Ludrick Khoza (25) for murder on November 13.

Kubheka received life imprisonment, and Khoza 20 years for the murder of Bhekokuhle Mahlaba (20).

Both men were declared unfit to possess a firearm.

According to a report by Captain Mpho Nonyane, the initial incident occurred on February 2, 2019.

Daggakraal police responded to reports of a seriously injured man in Sinqobile Street.

Police found the man in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds to the upper body.

Nonyane explained that the investigation led police to a tavern where the victim had been earlier that night.

Kubheka and Khoza were at the tavern at the same time, around 20:00.

“Mahlaba left the tavern to avoid a confrontation,” stated Nonyane.

According to the report, Kubheka and Khoza followed Mahlaba to another tavern, where they threatened patrons with knives and pangas.

Mahlaba left the second tavern, but the two followed him.

When Mahlaba did not arrive at home at the arranged time, his family grew concerned, and his friend went to search for him.

According to Nonyane, Mahlaba’s friend was a witness to the brutal stabbing.

Mahlaba was 20 years old at the time of the murder, and Kubheka and Khoza were 26 and 19, respectively.

According to the report, Kubheka, Khoza and Mahlaba were learners at a local school in Daggakraal at the time of the incident.

Arrests were quickly made through the work of Detective Sergeant Elijah Thusi.
