Mthethwa said police were particularly concerned about rape cases involving minor children, warning parents and guardians to take greater responsibility for the safety and protection of children.

“The rape cases involving minor children are concerning because it shows negligence on the part of parents. Parents are warned to ensure the safety of their children,” said Mthethwa.

Despite the high number of cases, Mthethwa said it was encouraging that police had managed to arrest suspects in some of the reported cases.

She said the arrested suspects are facing various charges as investigations continue. Police urged community members to remain vigilant and report criminal activities to law enforcement authorities.
