eMbalenhle tarvern double murder case postponed for plea bargain
Musonwabo Skweza stands accused of killing Siyabonga Fortune Hlapo (25) and Ratile Motloung (24) on January 1.
The Evander Regional Court has, on August 11, postponed the case against 35-year-old eMbalenhle tavern double murder accused, Musonwabo Skweza, to September 15 for plea bargain proceedings.
Skweza is facing two counts of murder following the fatal shooting of two men at a tavern in Extension 15, eMbalenhle, on New Year’s Day, January 1.
According to police, Skweza allegedly entered the tavern, shot 25-year-old Siyabonga Fortune Hlapo and 24-year-old Ratile Motloung, and fled the scene.
Police, working with the Secunda Flying Squad and Crime Intelligence, subsequently tracked Skweza down.

He was arrested on January 3 while allegedly hitchhiking in a vehicle travelling between Leandra and Devon. Police also recovered a firearm with its serial number filed off.
Skweza appeared in the Evander Magistrate’s Court on January 12, where he formally abandoned his bail application and was remanded in custody.
On March 2, the matter was transferred to the Evander Regional Court for trial.
The case has now been postponed to September 15, when Skweza is expected to return to court for plea bargain proceedings.
