Morgenzon takes part in 7s rugby tournament

The U/18 boys and the U/18 girls won the finals in their age categories, while eMbalenhle’s seniors were crowned the champions.

A sevens rugby tournament was held at the Sasol Club in eMbalenhle on Saturday, October 22. This is the second year this development tournament is held to celebrate Heritage Day.

It took place in Bethal last year, but no facilities in Bethal were made available for the organisers this year.

“This forced us to postpone the event until we found a new venue,” said organiser, Tebogo Maloa.

Although Morgenzon’s teams did not win the overall categories, they played their hearts out.

According to their coaches, the teams are still new to the sport and this is their first year taking part in a tournament.

Men, women, boys, and girls from numerous teams took part within their respective age categories, from primary school learners to seniors.

M.D Coovadia’s BU/13 won their section. The Highveld Boys U/16 won their division and the eMzinoni Academy won the U/16 division for the girls.

The U/18 boys and the U/18 girls won the finals in their age categories, while eMbalenhle’s seniors were crowned the champions.
