Karateka from Standerton bring medals home

Karateka from Skisa Three Swords Dojo in Standerton participated in Ermelo on February 11 in a provincial development championship and performed exceptionally well.

MEC of the Department of Culture, Sports and Recreation, BT Shongwe, executive mayor of the Gert Sibande District Municipality, Walter Mngomezulu, president of Karate South Africa, president of the Commonwealth Karate Nations of the World, vice-president of the All Karate Federation, Sonny Hanshi, as well as the vice-president of Karate South Africa were among the dignitaries that attended.
Almost 200 participants from across Mpumalanga competed to be included in the provincial team that will take part in the South African Championships in September.

Ricardo van Wyngaard, the only participant with previous competition experience, received two bronze medals.
Jaco Loretz received a bronze medal, Oarabile Moshoeshoe a gold and a bronze, Amelia Sehar a gold, Delvin Chellamcott a silver, Dean Stuart a bronze and Dallin Chellamcott a silver.
Cobus Swart received two gold medals in his division, while Reney Raven, assistant instructor, received a gold in the disability division (visually impaired).
Annalien Thompson made her debut as table official. Skisa Three Swords Dojo has produced four Protea karateka thus far.
“I aim to bring these upcoming champions to the Protea group,” sensei Degenaar concluded.
