Robbers attack guard and steal cable in eMbalenhle
Security guards at the GMM technical yard were tied with shoelaces in what was described as a burglary.
Robbers attacked a security guard and broke into the Govan Mbeki Municipality’s technical yard in eMbalenhle on March 9.
Two men approached the guard on duty at the municipal yard that night and pulled a gun on him.
The guard was assaulted and his hands were tied with shoelaces. They broke into three offices and stole a 30m cable.
The guard told the police that the robbers untied him before they theft the scene. He called the police and together they searched the premises and discovered that the cable was stolen.
According to constable Busi Mthethwa, the eMbalenhle police spokesperson, dockets for business robbery, pointing of a firearm and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm was opened.

No one has yet been arrested.
Donald Green, the acting communications manager for the municipality, confirmed the incident.
Ridge Times reported in December about a security guard who was murdered at the Leandra Water Treatment Works when he responded to a cable theft in progress.
Another guard was shot in the leg when gunmen overpowered security guards on duty at the eMbalenhle Wastewater Treatment Works on the night of July 10.
The robbers cut electricity cables that supply power to the plant.
