Logan Dyssel from Secunda has a setback after picking up an infection

After having his third open heart surgery in January, Logan Dyssel is back in the hospital after contracting an infection. He is being treated at Sunninghill Hospital in Sandton.

Logan Dyssel (9) has suffered a setback after his third open-heart surgery on January 26. He contracted an infection and is being treated at Sunninghill Hospital in Sandton.

Logan was admitted to the hospital on March 15 after the wound on his leg where the bypass was done, began showing signs of infection.

“His wound was healing up nicely, but then we saw a hole in his leg,” said his mother, Sammy.

Concerned about the hole and puss coming from it, Sammy immediately contacted Logan’s doctor, who then advised that Logan be admitted for treatment.

Logan Dyssel underwent his third open heart surgery on January 26.

Thankfully Logan showed no signs of high fever or anything that could have sent his body into shock.

“His infection is now under control and he is being treated with antibiotics. He is doing well,” said Sammy.

Logan is prone to infections due to his high-risk health conditions. Any cut or slight infection can be catastrophic.

He was born on October 21, 2013, with a congenital cardiac disorder. He is also completely deaf.

Although he is on medical aid, not all costs are covered and shortfalls from the medical aid and travelling expenses fall on his parents.
