Local security company acts fast to catch thieves.
The Ackermans store, in the Rayton Pick n Pay complex, was robbed on March 29.
Five armed men entered the store at about 11:30, held customers and workers hostage and demanded cellphones and cash.
They left with an unknown number of phones, at which point the workers escaped through the back door and activated the alarm.
According to a security officer for D-Force Security, they were alerted to the situation, noticed the vehicle and chased after it.
Near Donkerhoek, the response vehicle encountered a Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) vehicle from Region 5.
The information was given to them while the response vehicle continued driving. Near the old Coke factory on the R104, the response vehicle turned back.
Upon their return, they noticed that TMPD had stopped the vehicle.
Further investigations and CCTV footage placed the vehicle and driver at the scene of the robbery.
A case was opened with the SAPS and is under investigation.
