Water levels at Grootdraai Dam in Standerton at 96.4%
Mpumalanga recorded a 0.1% drop on average dam levels from 99.1% to 99.0%.
Gert Sibande District recorded a slight drop in water levels.
According to the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) state of reservoirs report, dated May 29, the district dropped from 98.4% to 98.2% as more listed dams recorded drops in water levels as compared to those that remained unchanged.
The dams that recorded declines in volumes, contributing to the overall drop, include Grootdraai Dam, dropping from 96.9% to 96,4%, Nooitgedacht Dam, dropping from 100.6% to 100.4%, Westoe Dam, dropping from 86.6% to 85.6% and Morgenstond Dam, dropping from 100.1% to 99.9%.
Vygeboom, Jericho and Heyshope dams recorded unchanged water levels, recording 100.9%, 91.6% and 101.0% respectively.
Mpumalanga recorded a 0.1% drop on average dam levels from 99.1% to 99.0%.
The water management areas also recorded declines in water levels, with the Olifants dropping from 90.7% to 90.4% and the Inkomati-Usuthu dropping from 99.7% to 99.6%.
The department called on the public to continue using the available water wisely and sparingly and reminded the public that South Africa is a water-scarce and dry country.
They said it is everybody’s responsibility to play a crucial role in supply security for current and future generations.
