Evander Gold Mines appoints new environmental manager

Nomfundo Mdluli will spearhead Evander Gold Mines’ comprehensive sustainability portfolio.

Pan African Resources promoted Nomfundo Mdluli to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) manager at Evander Gold Mines.

Mdluli, who previously served with distinction as an environmental coordinator at the group’s Barberton Mines operation, steps into this critical leadership role to oversee sustainable mining practices across Evander’s underground and surface tailings operations.

Mdluli brings extensive local environmental knowledge and a deep commitment to long-term community stewardship.

During her tenure at Barberton, she became known for advocating forward-looking ecosystem protection, famously noting that sustainable mining operations must be managed not just for contemporary metrics, but ‘for the generations coming next’.

In her new capacity as ESG manager, Mdluli will spearhead Evander Gold Mines’ comprehensive sustainability portfolio.

Her core mandate will include advancing the mine’s flagship decarbonisation and environmental projects, such as managing the 10MW Solar plant and expanding the 3ML per day reverse osmosis water retreatment plant.

She will also lead social development framework strategies, driving Pan African Resources’ commitment to host communities, local SMME procurement, and reducing environmental liabilities associated with the ongoing consolidation of historical tailings storage facilities through the Elikhulu operation.

“Nomfundo’s promotion reflects our core belief in nurturing internal talent and advancing purpose-driven leaders who understand that the future of mining is inextricably linked to sustainability,” said Randel Rademann, general manager of Evander Gold Mines.

“Her track record in environmental leadership and community engagement makes her uniquely qualified to embed robust ESG frameworks directly into our operational DNA as we access deeper orebodies and extend the lifespan of our operations.”
