Gate motor theft rises in Secunda

Residents were warned to take extra precautions when securing gate motors because there was a spike in such thefts in Secunda.

Residents were urged to take extra safety precautions after a recent spike in gate motor thefts.

Residents complained weekly to local sector groups about the theft of gate motors and the increase in such incidents.

In most cases, gate motors were stolen to be sold and not to gain easy access to the property for house burglaries.

However, that did not mean one’s property was less of a target for house burglaries.

Here are some safety tips for gate motors:

• Secure your gate motor with a cross bracket.

• Keep the gate motor locked to prevent theft.

• Ensure the edges fit together when closing the gate.

• Mark your gate motor clearly in three places to help find the owner when a suspect is arrested.

• If possible, install any device that will notify you or your security company when the gate is forcefully opened or tampered with.

Report any suspicious activity to your local police or sector WhatsApp groups.
