Alleged serial rapist stoned to death in cemetery in Delmas area

The Delmas police were alerted by the incident and upon arrival; they found the lifeless body of Masima covered in blood in the cemetery.

A male resident of Botleng, Delmas, who previously served 10 years for a rape case, apparently returned to his old ways after they released him from jail.

Thomas Sefauke Masina (38) died a gruesome death in the Botleng cemetery on August 11, when angry community members allegedly stoned him to death.

This alleged incident of mob justice occurred when a young woman from the community made an alarm after Masina apparently raped or attempted to rape her.

They rushed the victim to the Bernice Samuel Hospital. The community, however, had enough and took the law into their own hands by stoning Masina to death.

The Delmas police were alerted by the incident and upon arrival; they found the lifeless body of Masima covered in blood in the cemetery.

Emergency Medical Services declared Masima dead.

According to a community member who wishes to stay anonymous, soon after Masina was released from jail, four or more cases of rape occurred in the community.

“We complained about the rapist in our midst but did not get any joy. All fingers, however, pointed to Thomas (Masina) as we knew him in the community as a rapist.”

The Delmas Police confirmed the incident of alleged mob justice.

“It can not be confirmed, but it is possible that Masima could have been involved in other rape cases in the Botleng area in recent times.

“ What we know is a rapist doing the rounds who ‘cleaned’ his victims’ private parts with paraffin after the rape incidents occurred,” said Captain Carla Harley, media spokesperson for the Delmas Police.

“The SAPS can, however, not confirm that Masima committed these rapes in and around Botleng.”

Hartley, at the time of going to print, confirmed they have made no arrests in the mob justice case of the murder of Masima.
