By-election soon for Meyerville in Standerton

Chembeni replied the same day via WhatsApp that the by-election is declared for October 25.

A by-election will take place soon in Ward 4 in Meyerville/TLC, after the resignation of the Freedom Front Plus councillor, Corné Stoltz, from the council.

The Standerton Advertiser contacted the provincial spokesperson of the IEC, Thanduxolo Chembeni, on August 24 for more details.

Chembeni replied the same day via WhatsApp that the by-election will be on October 25. According to Chembeni, the candidate nominations will be from September 15 to October 2.

Voters can cast their special votes on October 24. Chembeni said the IEC will only confirm the candidates contesting the ward after October 2.

During the November 1, 2021, municipal elections, the Lekwa Community Forum garnered 19.43% of the votes to the ANC’s 42.03%.

The ANC did not obtain an absolute majority, which resulted in forming a coalition. The DA had a percentage of 13.36% votes and the EFF 9.18%.

The 30 seats in the council comprised 13 ANC members, six LCF members, four DA members, three EFF members, three FFP members and one member of the African Transformation Movement.
