Operation Shanela executed in Region 7

The SAPS Tshwane District apprehended 997 individuals during an operation last week. The operation that spanned Region 7 included Ekangala, Themba, Bronkhorstspruit, Cullinan, Boschkop, and Rayton.

At a high-density operation in the Temba policing on September 17 in Region 7, the law enforcement personnel arrested eight undocumented immigrants and five people for drinking in public.

They inspected the premises of 10 liquor outlets, where they closed down four and confiscated 71 682ml of liquor.

The officers searched 105 individuals and 56 vehicles during this operation. Bronkhorstspruit and Ekangala SAPS conducted a combined operation within their policing precincts on September 18.

They arrested 17 undocumented immigrants and two people for drug possession. They also arrested another two people who had five cartons of illicit cigarettes in their possession.

Inspections of four liquor outlets resulted in their closure as illegal shebeens for selling liquor without a license.

During this operation, they searched a total of 248 individuals and 81 vehicles.

Concluding the week, Operation Shanela took place in the afternoon of September 23, within the Boschkop and Cullinan police areas.

This operation led to the arrest of 283 individuals involved in various crimes, including 11 individuals driving under the influence of alcohol, 13 undocumented immigrants, 27 persons for public drinking and one suspect for drug possession.

Detectives arrested 231 suspects. The officers inspected 16 liquor outlets for compliance, resulting in seven being closed and the confiscation of liquor.

This operation involved searching 1 090 individuals and 771 vehicles, with two vehicles discontinued for not being roadworthy.

The collaboration among multiple stakeholders, including the departments of home affairs, labour, correctional services, and community safety.

Also involved were crime prevention wardens, Tracker, Gauteng Traffic, Tshwane Metro Police Department, local councillors, community policing forums, and various SAPS members from different units and stations within the Tshwane district.

Throughout the week, a total of 3 416 individuals and 2 089 vehicles underwent thorough searches at roadblocks, resulting in the issuing of 186 Aarto fines totalling R77 650 and two vehicles were discontinued for not being roadworthy.

The district commissioner of Tshwane, Major General Azwinndini Nengovhela, extended his appreciation to everyone who participated in these operations and contributed to the recovery of firearms.
