Standerton District Court finds sex offenders guilty

The Family Violence, Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Unit of SAPS investigated the incidents.

Standerton District Court sentenced Sabelo Colin Shezi (29) to imprisonment on two separate charges on September 22.

A 25-year-old woman was raped in Morgenzon on November 7, 2015. Shezi was sentenced to 10 years on the first charge of rape and 10 years on the second charge.

Appington Hlatswayo (31) was also sentenced in the same court on the same day to imprisonment.

It follows an incident in Standerton where a 26-year-old woman was raped, abducted and attacked on June 12, last year.

Hlatswayo will serve 10 years in jail on the first charge, six months on the second and two years on the third.

John Mahlangu (28) was also found guilty on a charge of rape and attempted rape, following incidents in Sakhile in February last year.

The victim was a 23-year-old woman. Mahlangy will serve 10 years in jail on the first charge and five years on the second.

The Family Violence, Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Unit of the SAPS investigated the incidents.
