League in Cullinan absorbs old players
The Cullinan Sports Centre hosted the Masters League, where 16 clubs played against each other.
The Cullinan Sports Centre hosted the Masters Soccer League on December 3, with 16 clubs battling for the title.
Mamelodi Masters League is in the north-east of Pretoria (aka Tshwane) Region.
The league has run for three years and comprises 19 teams from Mamelodi East and West, Nellmapius, Centurion and Cullinan.
The league teams usually play in two different locations each Sunday of every week at various sports grounds such as Mamelodi East, Rethabile and Cullinan sports grounds.
The more than 500 players are not younger than 33. An exception was made for three players younger than the age restriction but older than 30.
“The reason for forming this league is that we noticed that when a person playing soccer reaches 35, they are no longer of any use to their teams and end up staying at home, doing nothing.
“We allow them to play until they reach a stage where they want to retire voluntarily,” said Mpho Masutha, the secretary general of the Mamelodi Masters League.
It is run by a forum of team representatives and a special committee.
