Police find weapons cache in eMbalenhle
Police in eMbalenhle found explosives, a firearm, ammunition and an undisclosed sum of cash.
The police in eMbalenhle found explosives, a firearm, ammunition and an undisclosed sum of cash in a rental room in Ext 2, eMbalenhle, on April 15.
According to Constable Busi Mthethwa, the eMbalenhle police spokesperson, the police were following up on information about drugs in this area, where many standalone rooms are available to rent.
The gate to the yard where one of these rental rooms is, was locked, but the police saw a man doing laundry outside.
He feigned being unable to unlock the gate, claiming his wife was away with the key.
Mthethwa said the police then asked the neighbour if they could enter their backyard, from where they accessed the rental property, only to find the man doing laundry had disappeared.
The room’s door was wide open.
The police found two bags containing explosives, a firearm, ammunition and cash.
Mthethwa said a case is open for contravening the Explosives Act and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, but the SAPS had made no arrests yet.
The police believe Alberto Fernando Mate might have information helpful to the investigation.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts can call Captain Putseletso Dlamini on 072 713 5094.
