Lekwa resident relocated after getting trapped in her home
After heavy rainfall during March, the resident became trapped in her home in April. Emergency services responded quickly.
A resident of Ward 15 was trapped in her house on April 20 because of the deterioration of the home and heavy rainfall during March.
According to Noluthando Nkosi, communications officer for the Lekwa Local Municipality, this beneficiary of a low-cost housing programme had been living in a deteriorating space since 2009.
Rose Motloung, chief whip of the Lekwa municipal council and Ward 15 councillor, visited the site in February along with the office of the MEC and the Department of Human Settlement.

They found that urgent intervention was required, and they had to relocate the resident to a safe home.
After heavy rainfall during March, the resident became trapped in her home in April. Emergency services responded quickly.
With help from the Lekwa fire department, disaster management teams and the Department of Human Settlement, they moved her into a temporary residence.
The LLM expects to begin construction on a new home for the resident by June.
