Phumzile Mabaso has officially assumed her role after being promoted to the rank of Deputy Director.
The Bethal Management Area has welcomed Phumzile Mabaso as its new area coordinator for social reintegration following her promotion to the rank of deputy director.
Area commissioner, Abel Mashaba, presided over the pinning of her new rank insignias during a ceremony held at the Bethal Management Area offices. Her promotion became effective on June 1.
Mabaso is a seasoned correctional official who has built her career within the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) since joining the department in 1998.
After completing her basic training at Zonderwater College, she began her career as an investigator before serving in several administrative and operational roles, including duty clerk, human resources administrator, and secretary to the area commissioner and the parole board.
In 2010, she was appointed head of Bethal Community Corrections at the rank of senior correctional official.
In this role, she oversaw the implementation of social reintegration programmes, managed the reclassification of parolees and probationers, and ensured compliance with court-ordered programmes.
Her career progressed further in 2015 when she was appointed assistant director and manager for community corrections.
She held this position until she was appointed area coordinator for social reintegration, a role she had been acting in since April 2024.
With more than 15 years of experience in community corrections and a decade of service in various other sections of the department, Mabaso brings extensive knowledge and leadership to her new position.
She has played a key role in managing offender reintegration programmes, community service projects and restorative justice initiatives aimed at supporting parolees and probationers.
Congratulating Mabaso on her appointment, Mashaba thanked officials and managers within the Bethal Management Area for supporting her during her time in the acting role.
He encouraged staff members to continue working together and supporting one another to strengthen service delivery and achieve the department’s objectives.
