Medieval magic comes to life at Lake Umuzi in Secunda
Knights, fairies, wizards and dragons will descend on Lake Umuzi on September 26 for Medieval Fantasy Day Secunda, a family event combining fantasy-themed entertainment with a fundraising drive for local animal welfare organisations.
Lake Umuzi will turn into a fantasy kingdom on September 26 when Medieval Fantasy Day Secunda invites families to step into a world of knights, fairies, wizards and dragons.
The event, running from 09:00 to 16:00, will combine family entertainment with a fundraising initiative aimed at supporting animals in need.
Visitors can expect a full day of medieval and fantasy-themed activities, including interactive games, market stalls, food vendors, fortune telling, fairy door hunts, mermaids, mythical creatures and mechanical bull rides.
Costume competitions will also form part of the programme, with children, teenagers and adults encouraged to dress as their favourite medieval or fantasy characters. Prizes will go to the most creative outfits.
The event is being held in support of three local animal welfare organisations – Khulula Animal Welfare Society (KHAWS), Animal Protection Task Unit (APTU) and Because Dogs & Co.

Funds raised through ticket sales will contribute towards food, emergency veterinary treatment, sterilisation programmes and rescue operations. The organisations also rehabilitate abandoned and neglected animals and find them suitable permanent homes.
The event aims to provide families with a memorable day out while creating an opportunity for the community to support local animal welfare initiatives.
Rescue stories featuring animals such as McGyver, Nova and Ranger will also be shared, highlighting the difference that community involvement can make in the lives of rescued animals.
Those interested in supporting the event can still get involved, with organisers calling for additional vendors, sponsors and volunteers.
With its combination of fantasy entertainment, costumes and a worthwhile cause, Medieval Fantasy Day is set to offer Secunda families a different kind of day out while raising support for animals across the region.
