Motorcycle crash in Secunda claims mom 10 months after son
The death of Edith de Beer (53) in a motorcycle accident on the P185 road on October 11 has left family and friends heartbroken, coming just 10 months after her son, Vincent, died in a motorcycle accident on Christmas Day.
Family and friends paid their final respects to Edith de Beer (53) at a memorial service held at Cross Generation Church on October 17.
She died in a motorcycle crash on the P185 road in Secunda at around 18:20 on October 11, between the traffic-light intersection leading from Ext 22 and the pedestrian bridge.
When emergency services arrived, Edith was still responsive. However, she succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

According to sources at the scene, Edith was travelling towards Evander when her motorcycle appeared to have veered off the road onto the gravel shoulder, where the road’s edge had crumbled away. No other vehicles were involved.
Her death came as a huge shock to those who knew her, just 10 months after the tragic death of her son, Vincent de Beer (22).
Vincent also died in a motorcycle accident in Evander on Christmas Day. He allegedly lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a tree in Rotterdam Street.
He had loved motorcycles from a young age and, as a child, often rode with Edith on her motorcycle.
“Edith was absolutely devastated by her son’s death, as they were very close to each other,” said her best friend, Charlie Jansen van Rensburg.

Both mother and son were members of Crusaders CLAN 3663 Virika Charter, where Edith served as vice-president.
“Life takes strange turns, but this was an unexpected turn, a sudden turn, a sharp turn that my heart cannot handle,” said Charlie.
Edith leaves behind her daughter, Sammy Wells (28), a grandson, her mother, Veronica Harmse, and two brothers, Antonie and Gerhard Harmse.
