Standerton Cricket Club held their Annual General Meeting last Thursday evening.
Mr Theunis Barnard, the outgoing chairman, began proceedings.
He welcomed all present and apologies were taken for those not present.
Feedback from the Gert Sibande league was given and he thanked everyone for such a successful season.
As for the Mpumalanga Cricket Union, Mr Jaco Visagie, head coach of the Mpumalanga team and head of club cricket for the union, stated on e-mail that he was pleased with the positive attitude portrayed by the players.
The upcoming business league was also discussed.
It was decided it will begin on the second weekend of June and all teams willing to participate should finalise there involvement by the end of May.
More information regarding this will be given later once all the information has been finalised.
A decision was taken to take out membership at the local golf club which was done last year for the first time.
A special thank you was given to the golf club for there involvement with regards to the upkeep of the cricket grounds last season.
“If not for them there would probably not have been a club this season,” Mr Barnard said.
Awards were then given to those players who stood out during the season, or not so, in the case of Jacques Basson, who won the award for the worst fielder of the year.Junior Naude received the award for the best chirp of the year.
Jacques Erasmus was the best newcomer of the year even though he sustained a possible career-ending injury half way through the season, but fortunately he is on his way to full recovery.
Werner Mouton was the best fielder who performed wherever placed on the field.
Iain Pattullo was the best bowler with figures of 49 overs, 17 wickets at an average of 4.02 runs per over.
Juan Wilson was batsman of the year with 222 runs at an average of 24.67 runs per match.
He also received the Juan
Wilson floating trophy for his contribution to the club over the past 10 years.
Finally the much anticipated player of the year was awarded to JD Van Dyk for his all-round contribution with bat and ball during the season. The new committee was selected with chairman, Juan Wilson, club captain, JD Van Dyk, treasurer Pieter Voormolen and secretary, Jacques Basson.
The club ended first in the Gert Sibande promotional league which gave them the right to decide if they wished to advance to the premier league.
Votes were taken and after deliberation a decision was made to stay in the promotional league for one more season to build on the positive season that has just passed.
The new chairman wished the club well for the coming season.
