Disabled athlete from eMbalenhle conquers 5km race

Lucky Skhosana believes his achievement will encourage young people, especially those living with disabilities, to pursue their dreams boldly.

Lucky Skhosana, a man living with disability from eMbalenhle, made an inspiring statement when he successfully completed the 5km fun run race at the Sasol Marathon on February 14.

Living with cerebral palsy, Skhosana has refused to allow his condition to determine his future. Instead, he chose to lace up his running shoes and prove that determination is stronger than disability.

Skhosana said he entered the race with one mission: to show people with disabilities that they are capable of achieving anything they set their minds to.

For him, this 5km race was not just about running – it was about purpose, patience, and perseverance.

“My disability is my ability,” Skhosana said after crossing the finish line.

“I wanted to show that we are capable. If we can be patient and focused, we will accomplish what we desire in life.”

For him, completing the 5km required discipline and mental strength – qualities he also applies in his journey as a businessman. He believes that life and business are like a marathon, not a sprint.

According to Skhosana, success does not come overnight; it comes through consistency, patience, and refusal to give up.

“In life, there are challenges just like hills in a marathon, There are moments of pain and doubt. But what you start, you must finish. Patience and focus will make you win your race,” he explained.

Skhosana believes his achievement will encourage young people, especially those living with disabilities, to pursue their dreams boldly.

“Run in your passion, run in your purpose. Do not allow fear to stop you. If I can do it, you can do it too,” said Skhosana.

For Skhosana, completing the 5km was more than earning a medal – it was about changing mindsets and proving that with patience, focus, and belief, anyone can cross their finish line.
