Sizwakele’s sad defeat on nationals
After a great season of success from district to provincial level, Sizwakele Secondary School did not perform well in the U/19 Sanlam Kay Motsepe Schools Cup national finals.
eMBALENHLE – After a great season of success from district to provincial level, Sizwakele Secondary School did not perform well in the U/19 Sanlam Kay Motsepe Schools Cup national finals.
They won four matches.
In the first they played against Clapham Secondary School and lost 3 to 0.
In the second and third matches, they drew 0 to 0 with Sukuma Secondary School and Dr R Cingo Secondary School respectively.
They gained momentum in the fourth and fifth matches and they beat Ingabade Secondary School 1 to 0 and Walmer Secondary School 6 to 0 respectively.
However their seven points did not qualify them for the next round and they had to play in the position playoffs.
Mr Motloung, their coach, said the boys did their best to win, but it was not their day.
“This was our first matches on national level, it took the boys a while to adjust to that level and when they had picked up, it was too late.
“I am proud of them and they are a good team.
“We brought the trophy and the R100 000 home that we won at provincial level.”
In the playoffs they lost 2 to 0 against Phangalele Secondary School and 2 to 0 against Desmond Mpilo Secondary School.
They finished 10th out of the 18 schools.
Mr David Nzima, team manager, commended the boys for their hard work and told them not to give up.
“This was learning curve and we now know what to expect on the national level.
“Next year we are at it again and will win.”
Mr Nzima thanked Mr Sam Moemesi, school principal, the school staff and pupils for always supporting the U/19 team.
He also commended the local teams, Remember United, West United, Juventus, Yizo-Yizo, Govan Mbeki Municipal Local Football Association and other local teams.
“They contributed a lot to help us reach national level.”
