Thapelo wins silver medal at wrestling championships
Teen is now helping his coach train younger wrestlers.
eMBALENHLE – Thapelo Mokhabela (15) is climbing the ladder of success in wrestling.
He brought home a silver medal after taking the second place at the South African Youth Wrestling Championships in Cape Town recently.
Thapelo was competing with 14 junior wrestlers countrywide in the U/33kg category.
His win followed several victories, such as when he won a gold medal at the South African Games last year and a bronze medal at the President Wrestling Championships.
He said he was overwhelmed to secure a second place on national level.
“I am going to take this sport more serious and I realise that I can make a living through it the future.
“The fights were not easy at all, because the kids were more professional, but eKasi skills helped a lot.”
Mr Lucas Ngwenya, Thapelo’s coach, said it was a big win for Thapelo and will open doors for him.
He said Thapelo is now skillful in the sport and helps him train younger wrestlers.
“This boy is going to go places, because he is talent and very committed.”
