Mpumalanga gets silver medals

HIGHVELD – The South African Sports Association for the Intellectually Impaired (SASAII) games that were hosted by Mpumalanga, ended on Friday, 30 October.
SASAII’s president, Ms Lizzy Vogel, said she was proud of the organising team and the pupils who took part.
She also thanked the sponsors, Lottery Board, Lulamisa, Sasol, Govan Mbeki Municipality, Medi-Clinic, BMW Garage, Graceland and others.
The Lottery Board said they will fund all LSEN athletics and table tennis events.
“I am relieved that the Board will be funding some of our events, because organising events without money has never been easy.
“I believe the Mpumalanga executive team has learned something that they can take forward and put in their profiles after having hosted this big event,” said Ms Vogel.
The athletes with down syndrome will compete in Bloemfontein in December.
The CEO of Lulamisa Community Development Organisation, Mr Ben Cele, said there is a need to mobilise the community for the development of disability and women’s games.

The cross country best male Down syndrome athlete was Charles Mailula from Limpopo and the best female Down syndrome athlete was Juliet Mailula from Limpopo.
The cross country best male intellectually impaired athlete was Ishmael Legodi from Limpopo and the best female was Rhulani Mabunda from Limpopo.
The basketball team winners for girls are: North West (first), Gauteng (second) and Limpopo (third).
The basketball team winners of boys are: North West (first), Mpumalanga (second) and Gauteng (third).
Best players for Basketball were Bonang Modise (girls) and Vincent Ramorwesi (boys), both from North West province.
The netball winners are: Eastern Cape (first), Mpumalanga (second) and Gauteng (third).
The best promising player in netball is Nozizwe Thwala from KwaZulu-Natal.
The best netball shooter is Nomahlubi Hlasela from the Eastern Cape, the best netball defender is Thandi Lamola from Mpumalanga and the best netball centre wis Lebo Phiri from Mpumalanga.
Limpopo won the Down syndrome competition with the Eastern Cape coming second.
The football winner for the intellectually impaired is the Western Cape and the best football player of the tournament for the intellectually impaired is Pieter Donowan from the Western Cape.
