Walker Park hosts Sages Highveld golf day

Charlie Andrew was named the godfather of Sages Highveld.

EVANDER – Sixty-two players took part in the Senior Association of Golf Enthusiasts (Sages) Golf Day hosted by Walker Park Golf Club on Tuesday, 17 May.

Senior golf players have played five games for the year so far and thanked Mr Lukas Potgieter, president of Walker Park Golf Club, for sponsoring the event, including food.

Mr Charlie Andrew, chairman of Sages Highveld, said they have 170 members and 24 prospective members.

Sages Highveld acknowledged the presence of their president, Mr Bokkie Nell, and said they are privileged to be led by him.

Mr Nell is retiring as the president of Sages at the end of June after serving his two year term.

Mr Ian Johnston was one of the people who were praised for being a Sages member for 21 years.

He was a committee member for 20 years and played in 22 national games.

Mr Andrew said Mr Johnston, secretary of Sages Highveld, deserves to be called the godfather of Highveld Sages.

Sages will have its 40th National Championship that will be hosted by the Jimmy Gowans branch on both Rand Park golf courses from 6 to 10 June.
