National Rally Championship brought great excitement to Secunda

SECUNDA – The third round of the National Rally Championship was hosted by the local community of Secunda and provided lots of excitement.

It was the closest fought battle for first place in a long time, with excellent driving from South African rally legends.

Going into the final stage, there was a mere 1.2 seconds between Leeroy Poulter and Giniel de Villiers.

During the course of the rally, these two had rotted between pole and second various times, making for exhilarating viewing.

Leeroy and Elvéne secured the Secunda Rally victory with a fine stage win and a victory margin of only 2.1 seconds.

Guy Botterill and Simon Vacy-Lyle drove their Toyota to victory with a combined time of 1 hour 55 minutes and 53.5 seconds and local AC Potgieter had his dream come true with a podium finish on home ground.

The Secunda Rally victories move Leeroy and Guy to a joint perfect 48 points, after the first three rounds of the 2016 South African Rally Championships.

The Secunda Rally will be broadcast on Super Sport Channel 8 on 31 May at 8pm.

After the Secunda Rally, the drivers and cars will set off for the next event in the series, namely the Volkswagen Port Elizabeth Rally, that takes place on 15 and 16 July.
