Loud dusty excitement at the Secunda Regional Rally

The Secunda Regional Rally was held on 11 June in and around Secunda.

SECUNDA – The weekend saw some intense motor-sport action in and around Secunda.

The Rallysport Secunda Regional Rally took place in eight stages with the race commencing at the Lake Umuzi south bank and the final stage taking the drivers back to the lake.

In between, there were various stages on farms along the N17 highway and across from Graceland.

Altogether 18 vehicles began the race, but only 12 completed all the stages.

Luke Botha and Barry White in their Ford Fiesta came first with a total time of 1:08,41.

AC Potgieter and Tommy du Toit in a Volkswagen Polo and Richard Leeke and Henry Khöne in a Ford Fiesta came second and third respectively a mere seconds behind the winners.

The stages were fast and technically challenging with many drivers having to pull out all the stops to get through a patch of thick sand on stage 1 and 4.

Spectators were encouraged to view the different stages and show their support of their favourite teams at different spectator spots along the route.
