Tennis academy produces stars

Standerton Tennis Academy Programme is designed to give children an introduction to tennis.
The programme focuses on grassroots level skills development, depending on the age group.
According to Mr Mathew Khumalo, coach, tennis is a sport that can be enjoyed by all, regardless of age, gender or skill level.
“Most of the players in the academy have achieved good results,” he said.
Some of them, namely Divyesh Daya, Frederick Nel, Zander Fourie and Carina Visagie, have been selected to compete in provincial tournaments.
The academy does not only teach tennis, but also focuses on character development.
“This programme can benefit children from all walks of life and backgrounds,” Mr Khumalo said.
He also said the development includes academics and discipline, which can come in handy for children.
According to him, they are working very hard to improve the lives of the players, however the facility currently in use is not in a good condition.
“There are some individuals who have been assisting to maintain the courts,” Mr Khumalo said.
He thanked them for their contributions, saying building people is building dreams.
