Secunda Stars receive soccer balls
"We have no sponsors at the moment and we have to make sure that players get paid monthly and are well taken care of."
KINROSS – One of the goals of Secunda Stars is to play at the Premier Soccer League and having enough soccer balls is one step forward.
This was stated by the chairman of the team, Mr Fanyana Sibanyoni, after they received 20 soccer balls from Sasol on Friday, 22 July.
Mr Sibanyoni said they are currently playing in the ABC Provincial Motsepe League and as the senior team in the district, they are campaigning on a very high level to be in the PSL.
Though they are the senior team, they still face many challenges, ranging from making sure that their players have accommodation, food and transport when they play away games.
“We have no sponsors at the moment and have to make sure that players get paid monthly and are well taken care of.
“All the expenses are covered by ourselves,” said Mr Sibanyoni who further mentioned that people think running a soccer team is easy, but it is not.
The team also has players who are coming from other areas in the province and in order for them to be properly managed, they must stay at the club house.
During his speech, Mr Sibanyoni said should they manage to reach the PSL, it will mean more job opportunities for the small entrepreneurs.
“We will be able to get big games into our area and having more fans in our stadium, means more business,” said Mr Sibanyoni.
The vice president of Sasol Public Affairs, Ms Maureen Mboshane, said they feel honoured to offer support to the team through donating the soccer balls.
She further mentioned that one of Sasol’s objectives is to invest in the community closest to them.
“It is through initiatives like these that players are developed to achieve their objectives and we would love to share in your successes,” said Ms Mboshane.
Secunda Stars is currently preparing for the new season and requests businesses to assist in various ways.
