Litheko Marago develops soccer stars
“Luckily I qualified for a sports bursary because my matric results were very good,”
It is not very often that a soccer player plays for a team, becomes the coach and later owns it.
However, that is exactly what happened in Mr Litheko Marago’s case.
He played for the Young Highlanders, became the coach and took over as owner when the founder died.
“I was 12 years old playing for Gunners FC with my friends when Young Highlanders FC players recruited me to join the club and I accepted,” Mr Marago said.
This is where his lengthy relationship with the club began.
His skills saw him playing for the U/17, U/19 and U/20 provincial teams.
He was selected for the U/17 senior team that competed at a tournament in Midvaal in 1993.
“During the tournament the coach of the Gauteng team, who was based in Midvaal, said I must call him after passing my matric,” he said
