Bethal A wins B division during championships

The Ginny Herbet Lady Player/Personality award went to Elri van der Merwe.

BETHAL – Bethal Polocrosse Club is one of the fastest growing clubs in Mpumalanga and it hosted the South African Club Championships from 26 to 28 August.

Clubs from Gauteng and the Cape entered the championships.

The dust and sun did not keep players and supporters from having a good time and horses were well looked after.

A medic as well as a veterinarian were on call throughout the championship.

Bethal A won the B division, Bethal B the D division and Bethal C the E division.

The best horse and rider award went to Elri van der Merwe and her horse, Dublin, from the Bethal A division.

She also received the Ginny Herbet Lady Player/Personality award.

Paddy O’Sullivan was awarded as the most worthy no 3 player.

Stef Harris scored the most goals and the Umpire of the Year award went to Emma Hall.

Ross Beukes is the Player of the Year.

The Best Junior Player is Zack Hooper and the Golden Pony award went to Daresay that was ridden by Gordon Shaw.

Women who will form part of the touring team, are Jean Hackland, Caley Higgs, Leigh Higgs, Cecelia Jacobs, Dawnay Jacobs, Natalie McLarty, Elri van der Merwe and Jacqui Minaar (reserve).

The men’s touring team consists of Steff Harris, Graeme McLarty, Janni Steenkamp, Retief Steenkamp, Travis Timm, Attie van Wyk, Nico van Wyk and Scott Hoskings (reserve).
