Secunda hosts important tennis tournament
Secunda hosted the Tennis South Africa Mini 3 Tournament from 2 to 4 September.
SECUNDA – The Tennis South Africa (TSA) Mini 3 Tournament was held in Secunda from 2 to 4 September.
It was open to junior players countrywide.
More than 70 of the best players from Gauteng, North West, the Free State, Mpumalanga and Mozambique took part in the different age groups.
Secunda has various excellent tennis facilities and the courts of the Sasol Recreation Club, Hoërskool Oosterland and Hoërskool Secunda were used.
Players from the Highveld region measured well against their counterparts from elsewhere and the following players achieved top 8 positions:
In the BU/18 group, Stefan Kemp was fifth and Tom Slabbert was sixth. Both are from Ermelo.
Chizelle Rossouw from Secunda came second in the GU/18 group.
Hele Schutte from Ermelo was fifth, Carina Visagie from Standerton was sixth and Desiree Jordaan from Ermelo was seventh.
Wernich Rossouw from Secunda came third in the BU/12 group and Jacques Slabbert from Ermelo won gold in this group.
Aldo Strydom and Stiaan Kimmens, both from Standerton, finished in fifth and eighth places respectively.
In the GU/12 group, Nina Creydt came third and Kate Bekker fifth. Both are from Piet Retief.
Finally, in the BU/10 group, Marcel Weber from Piet Retief came in third place and Wina Strydom from Standerton finished in seventh place.
The Mini 3 Tournament forms part of a series of TSA 3 Mini Tournaments held over the course of the year in Secunda, Middelburg and Mbombela.
The ranking points achieved over the course of the Mini 3 Tournaments will lead to an invitation for the best eight players to the TSA Mini Masters Tournament that will be held from 15 to 16 October.
