LEANDRA – Sgt Yolanda Nhlapo made Leandra Police Station proud by winning the Best Newcomer in Netball Award during the South African Police Service National Sports Championship.
It was hosted by Nelspruit and Sgt Nhlapo was playing for the Mpumalanga netball team from 27 August to 3 September.
She began playing at the station and was selected for the Secunda Cluster and ended up representing the province.
This fast runner shooter said her love for netball began in primary school.
The Mpumalanga netball team came third at the championship, but Sgt Nhlapo was selected to play for the national team.
“I was shocked when they mentioned my name, because I never thought I would win.
“It was my first time that I participated at national level.”
Sgt Nhlapo said her colleagues are excited about her achievement.
