Bethal Bears begin league with victories

BETHAL – Bethal Bears Cricket Club kicked off the Premier League with two convincing victories over the last two weekends.

They played against the side from Msukiligwa Warriors from Ermelo on 8 October and beat them by eight wickets.

Warriors batted first and was bowled out for 88 runs.

Albertus Richter had the perfect debut performance with the ball and was responsible for six of the Warriors’ wickets.

Bethal scored runs quickly, with Corne Greyvenstein scoring a rapid 54 runs off only 32 balls, ensuring the victory in only the 14th over.

The Bears came up against the team from eMbalenhle on Saturday, 15 October.

eMba batted first and again the bowlers of the Bears were just too good for them.

eMba struggled their way to a mere 98 runs before they were all bowled out.

Ashley Methula with 3/5 in 7, Tiaan du Preez with 4/32 in 9 and Nico Coetzee with 2/32 in 5 were Bethal Bears’ best bowlers.

Bethal scored the winning runs in the 23rd over, winning the match by six wickets.

The Bears’ best batsman was Drikus Pentz with 32 runs.

“We are very pleased with our two bonus point victories,” said Tim van Biljon, selector after the game.

The Bears’ next game is on 22 October against Piet Retief in Piet Retiref.
