Roman Stars gets R1000 and soccer kit
“I heard the best player comes from these dusty grounds.”
KINROSS – Six teams played for the thousand rand prize and a soccer kit during the Oliver Tambo Memorial Soccer Tournament organised by the ANC Youth League over the weekend.
The final match, which was attended by ward councillors and the mayor of Govan Mbeki Municipality, was on Sunday, 6 November between Porto FC and Roman Stars.
The game was very tight as both teams had their eyes on the prizes.
Porto’ player, Scapi, got a red card in the second half after he received two yellow cards for mistakes.
The final score was 2-1 in favour of Roman Stars.
During the prize giving, Ms Flora Maboa-Boltman, Govan Mbeki Municipal executive mayor, thanked the teams that participated, the sponsors and the ANC Youth league.
“I heard the best player comes from these dusty grounds,” said the mayor, who also applauded the young boys who were collecting balls for the players during the games.
She urged the youth of Kinross to work together as a ward.
The ANC Youth League chairman, Mr Joseph Nkabinde, said they have decided to make this an annual tournament.
“We have spotted some loopholes during the tournament, including a lack of discipline among some players and we will come up with stricter measures for the competing teams next year,” said Mr Nkabinde.
He promised that the youth league will meet with the mayor to discuss issues such as new sports grounds for the youth of Kinross.
