Rugby players win R100 000 in Premiers League
The league was open to players of both genders.
The rugby teams of Thobelani Secondary School were victorious in the Premiers Rugby League and took home R100 000 for the benefit of their school.
The league for schools was hosted in Mbombela (Nelspruit) on Thursday, 1 December and was open to players of both genders.
Thobelani Secondary School in Sakhile took part in a different tournament up to June, but did not manage to reach the finals.
“It inspired us to practice harder to make it to the next tournament which began in July,” Mr Lukhele Mpho, coach of both teams, said.
Ms Motsoeneng Tshepiso, team manager, said that their teams which they entered into the tournament won all three matches that were played to reach the league finals.
The rugby teams proved their skills and beat their opponents in the finals.
Mr Danie Ngwenya, principal, said he was very proud of the boys and girls.
According to their coach, Mr Lukhele Mpho, their greatest challenge is the poor condition of the field that they use to practice.
“These players will perform even better if they have a decent rugby field,” Mr Mpho said.
The girls will be representing Mpumalanga in the national Sevens League in Pretoria next year.
