SECUNDA – Both the men and women’s teams from the Highveld District came third in the Mpumalanga Development Bowls Tournament that was hosted at the Sasol Secunda Bowls Club from 27 to 29 April.

According to Mr Lappies Labuschagne, club chairman, this was the first time in more than 12 years that this tournament was held in Secunda.

The development tournament was contested between teams from the Highveld and included Secunda, Bethal and clubs on the eastern Highveld, Mpumalanga Central (Middelburg and Witbank), and the Lowveld.

Each team consisted of five players who have not yet received provincial colours.

The teams competed in single, double, triple and quadruple competitions.

The Highveld women’s team came third in the development tournament. In front are Tracy Semple, Ms Annette van Ryneveld (team manager) and Rieka Cooper. At the back are Elmarie Weilbach, Juanita de Villiers and Susan van Huyssteen.

The team from Central won the men’s division, with Lowveld in second place and Highveld third.
