Locals reap accolades at Mpumalanga Cricket Awards

Sasol Secunda Cricket Club and the Gert Sibande District Cricket won numerous awards

HIGHVELD – Sasol Secunda Cricket Club and the Gert Sibande District walked away with several trophies at the annual Mpumalanga Cricket Union awards that were held in eMalahleni on Saturday night, 19 May.

The club’s chairman, Mr Ignus Koekemoer, received the trophy for the best district administration in Mpumalanga.

The club was awarded the trophy for the best club administration, Sasol 3 is the runner up of the Promo 50 overs series and Sasol 1 came second in the T20 Premier series.

Anthea Rossouw from Sasol received the trophies for the Gert Sibande club and Mpumalanga scorer of the year, and Elsa van Zyl from Sasol was awarded the accolade for the most games scored.

The Gert Sibande Umpire Rookie of the Year award was given to Carl Kotse (Sasol).

Nathan Carstens (Sasol) was honoured as the Coca Cola U/19 best batsman for the Mpumalanga Titans.

The U/13B Mpumalanga Titans’ player of the week was Marco Langden (Hoërskool Secunda). The U/15B Mpumalanga Titans’ batsman and player of the week was Luco van der Walt (Piet Retief).

The U/12B Mpumalanga Titans’ bowler of the week was Holger Gevers (Piet Retief)

Neil Parsons from Bethal received the trophies for Gert Sibande and Mpumalanga’s most matches umpired, while Carmen Franken (Sasol) was named the Rookie of the Year Scorer.

The Mpumalanga Rookie of the Year Award was given to André Ridgard from Piet Retief. His teammate, Freedom Buthelezi, received the award for regional week manager.

The eMba Iron Maidens are the Women’s Club winners with Nicolene Janse van Rensburg (Hoërskool Secunda) as the women’s player of the Year.

The provincial team bowler of the year is Ashley Methula, with Freedom Buthelezi honoured as the provincial team’s most valuable player.

Ellwyn Thomas (Jnr) from the Ermelo Froggs was named the Promotion Batsman of the Year.
