Secunda Marathon Club gets ready for the Comrades

Secunda Marathon Club has 36 runners taking on the Comrades this year.

SECUNDA – The Secunda Marathon Club held their annual pre-Comrades braai on Saturday, 26 May to motivate and inform the runners who will be taking on this year’s Comrades Marathon.

The evening was kicked off with a talk by Mr Mark Wills, a specialist in sports nutrition and the co-founder of the 32Gi Sports Nutrition company.

He explained to the runners how to keep a balance in vitamins, hydration and food intake when running.

Ms Wilma Jordaan, chairman of the club, said this year Secunda will send 36 runners to the Comrades on 10 June. These include 23 men and 12 women.

There will be 11 runners tackling the Comrades for the first time, while Guy Shepstone will run his 20th race and Danie Jacobs will go for his 28th run.

All the Comrades runners from the club also received their special personalised shirts for the event.

Johan Joubert will be running his third race, with a twist. He received permission from the Comrades committee to run it in his father’s permanent number 2121. His dad finished 15 Comrade marathons.

The club will go for the traditional brag run this Saturday morning, 2 June.
