Teams went head to head in finals of tournament hosted by the Local Football Association.
Soccer development teams from Ermelo and surrounding areas went head to head in the finals of a tournament hosted by the Local Football Association (LFA) on Saturday, 2 June.
Spectators at the Mpumalanga Stadium in Wesselton were treated to a goal fest as young players battled it out on the field to be crowned the champions of the tournament that began on 30 March.
Three finals took place on the day with the U/13 group play out by development teams from Lumoja FC and Wesselton Stars.
The young Lumoja FC players emulated their first team by defeating Wesselton Stars 4-3 in a penalty shoot out.
Their U/15 side also did not disappoint and put three goals past the Iwisa United goalkeeper.
However, the side had to dig deep to beat an Iwisa side that fought back after the opening goal.
That match ended 3-2 in Lumoja’s favour.
In the U/17 age group, Wesselton Stars were tasked with flying the local flag high when they played against a spirited Breyten United side.
The locals held their own, with the match ending in a goalless draw. However, they were defeated 4-3 on penalties.
The tournament was given a nod of success with the LFA praising the emerging talent of young football stars.
Another tournament will be held during the winter school holidays, as a way of encouraging development teams to continue the good work of keeping the youth active.
