40th #SasolSecundaMarathon is this weekend

SECUNDA – The Sasol Secunda Marathon Club will be hosting the 40th Secunda Marathon on Saturday, 15 February.
The race is a Comrades and Two Oceans qualifier. A total of 1 600 runners took part in this race last year.
“Entries for this upcoming race are coming in fast,” said Ms Sizakele Masilela, Specialist: Internal & External Communication for Sasol.
“For the past 40 years since its establishment, the race level has improved year after year.” The marathon will kick off 6am at the Sasol Recreation Club on Nelson Mandela Drive in Secunda.
This race is one of the initiatives for Sasol to promote healthy living among people of all ages and fitness levels.
Runners can choose to take part in a 42.2km full marathon, a 21.1km half marathon or a 10km run.
Families and beginners are encouraged to take part for pleasure in the 4.5km fun run.
The event is such an attraction that it brings the Secunda town roads to a halt with excited runners and spectators. There will be water points at every 2.5 to 3km along the route manned by Sasol employees.
All athletes who finish the race within the respective cut-off times will receive a medal.
Total prize money is R35 000.
The winners of the marathon and half marathon will receive R2 500 and R1 500 respectively.
Sasol’s communications department urged road users to take note that the marathon will use the following roads, Nelson Mandela Drive, PDP Kruger, OR Tambo, Helen Joseph, Joe Slovo, Walter Sisulu Drive and Trichardt Road.
