Cricket union elects new committee

SECUNDA – The Mpumalanga Cricket Union is in the process of aligning with the new modus operandi and the geo-political directives from Cricket South Africa.

With the new procedures, each geo-political region will consist of a members council which will consist of a regional chairperson for primary-, high school, girls, club cricket and match officials.

Out of these divisions, one member will serve as chairman of the council and will represent the district on the MCU board.

Mr Dylan Niemand from Sasol will serve as the new Gert Sibande Club Cricket district chairman and he was also elected as chairman of the members council, replacing outgoing chairman, Ignus Koekemoer on the MCU Board.

The other members serving on the Gert Sibande members council are Mr Albert Biddlecombe (high schools), Mr Johan Naudé (primary schools), Mr Carl Kotze (match officials), while the girls cricket position is currently vacant.

Mr Niemand’s first task as the new regional club chairman, was to re-establish the Gert Sibande Club Cricket committee.

The new committee are Mr Niemand (chairman, Sasol), Mr Ignus Koekemoer (secretary, Sasol), Mr Eugene Nel (marketing, Piet Retief), Mr Neil Parsons (women, Bethal Bears), Mr Jonathan Madonsela (development, eMbalenhle), Mr Daan Coetzer (social) and Mr Carl Kotze (match officials).

The purpose of the regional club committee will be to strengthen club cricket within the region and to build a close knit cricket community within the region.
