Learners dance online for their Mpumalanga sport colours

HIGHVELD – Numerous kids from local schools received their Mpumalanga colours for dance after competing in an online competition hosted by Solo Dance SchoolSport during the lockdown.

The competition began months ago with the normal fixtures from where the dancers were chosen to take part in the Gert Sibande District competition. The best were then selected for the Mpumalanga online competition and they received their provincial colours.

These are some of the high school learners in the area who obtained Mpumalanga colours in dance during online dance tournament. In front are Olwethu Dlamini, Divan van der Merwe, Mickey Mhlanga and Johnke Prinsloo. In the middel are Lethabo Ramelo, Pabalelo Makulu, Siphesihle Mntanso and Jemma Laubscher. At the bacj are Malindi Mthethwa, Sulize Alberts, Mr Christiaan Els (instructor), Diané van Rooyen and Madison Naidoo.

Professional judges, including international judges, judged the competition.

The top six dancers will take part in the South African championships later this year.

Mr Christiaan Els, chairman of Solo Dance SchoolSport Mpumalanga and also dance instructor, said DanceSport South Africa is working on the process to have dance as sport in all the schools.
