1834 Tactical in Secunda aims to empower people to protect themselves

SECUNDA – Empowering people with the knowledge and skill to protect themselves and their family is the main objective of opening the 1834 Tactical shooting range and dojo at Lake Umuzi last month.
This complex hosts a 12m approved shooting range, a training centre for firearm proficiency and various other courses, a dojo for Krav Maga (self-defense) classes and a shop for tactical gear.

The owners, Mr Hein Ernst from Standerton and Ms Nadia Alberts from Secunda, have taken a holistic approach by incorporating theoretical and practical training courses, self-defense and sport under one roof.
1834 Tactical is an approved training provider and the courses range from firearm proficiency, basic to advanced handgun, vehicle defense, women self-defense, and first responder tactical to how to strip and clean your gun and how you can stop someone from bleeding out.
“Stop the Bleed is a course that every household needs to master. It is more than basic first aid training. This course teaches you how to stop a gunshot or knive attack victim from bleeding out,” explained Ms Alberts.
The next Stop the Bleed course is on 30 January.
The indoor shooting range with its eight lanes and moving target system is the centre’s main attraction. Each lane has its own cubicle for the shooter’s use.
“Although the range has been approved for all calibres, we prefer to protect our range and only allow up to 223 calibres to be fired here,” said Ms Alberts.
1834 Tactical has an NRCS approved long-distance shooting range on the farm of Mr Ernst where larger calibre weapons can be accommodated.
Mr Ernst and Mr Jacques Alberts are the instructors at 1834 Tactical.
Mr Ernst is a PH (dedicated hunter), as well as an instructor and assessor in handguns, shotguns and rifles.
This includes for business purposes.
Mr Alberts is also qualified in the above. He is further a qualified tactical instructor which includes the qualification of military and law enforcement.
He is a certified armourer for Glock and a qualified instructor in Krav Maga.
Mr Alberts also received training under the world-renowned Instructor Zero.
Ms Alberts and Ms Alida de Beer assist with the training classes in the dojo where they focus more on empowering women and children.

The Krav Maga instructors are Mr Alberts and Mr Marcel de Beer.
1834 Tactical is also the ambassadors for Geni-Ax and Bushi Tactics that is known worldwide.
According to Ms Alberts, 1834 Tactical plans to host club days for club shoots, and low light and night shoots.
However, you do not have to be a club member to use the range.
“Anyone is welcome,” said Ms Alberts.
