Graceland hosts big boxing tournament in March
Return of Big Guns will visit Secunda.
SECUNDA – The TLB Human Right’s Day boxing tournament will take place at Graceland Hotel, Casino and Country Club on Saturday, 20 March.
Hector ‘Hekkie’ Budler, one of South Africa’s most decorated boxers and former WBA and IBF world light flyweight champion, and Xolisani ‘Novema’ Ndongeni will take part in the tournament.
The aim of this boxing tournament, organised by TLB Boxing Promotions in collaboration with the Mpumalanga Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, is to celebrate and mark this year’s Human Rights Day and International Women’s Month for March.
This is the first time that TLB Boxing Promotions will be hosting a tournament outside of its Gauteng home turf and it is part of the Mpumalanga Department of Sport’s activities for Human Rights Day and International Women’s Month.
The tournament is dubbed ‘Return of the Big Guns’ as it marks Budler’s long anticipated return to the ring after a two year break form competitive activities.
He described the two years as frustrating and terrible.
He will face Muhsin Kizota of Tanzania in a 10-round international flyweight battle.
Ndongeni will face Byson Gwayani of Malawi in a 10-round international light-weight battle.
Other boxers that will be seen showing their steel in the ring are Mzamo ‘Chief’ Njekany, Noxolo Makhanavu who will be defending her South African title against Smangele Hadebe and Sam Sithole and Xolani Mgidi will battle it out in a ‘Mpumalanga Derby’.
