Pumas benches club rugby for now
The suspension was set to last for two weeks until Monday, July 5, when the Covid-19 situation in the province would have been re-evaluated. However, this was said before the president called for a level 4 lockdown a week later.
HIGHVELD – The Mpumalanga Rugby Union has suspended all club rugby games for now.
The suspension began on Monday, June 21. This decision followed a 300% spike in Covid-19 cases in the province the previous week.
The suspension was set to last for two weeks until Monday, July 5, when the Covid-19 situation in the province would have been re-evaluated. However, this was said before the president called for a level 4 lockdown a week later.

The head coach of the Sasol Digi Mag Rugby Club, Mr Lodewyk Uys, said two weeks ago this is the reason why a planned game against Newcastle on June 19 was postponed until further notice.
Clubs who did play that weekend’s fixtures but postponed the matches have not been penalised. The Mpumalanga Rugby Union said that although there had not been any outbreaks in the clubs, the greater communities have been being affected.
“The rugby community needs to be proactive in preventing the spread of the virus.”
