Witbank’s Derrick takes Walker Park Junior Open

Despite scorching weather, ardent junior golfers gave a hot performance on the greens.

Young golfers took to Walker Park Golf Club’s greens on Sunday, February 13, to compete in the Walker Park Junior Open.

The days open saw about 80 youngsters compete with the youngest player being 6-years-old and the elders 19-years-old.

The day’s Junior Open had five divisions played.

Despite scorching weather conditions, ardent junior golfers gave a hot performance on the greens.

Sabie Junior Open winner, Derrick Howard from the Witbank Golf Club, went out flying and came back with a birdie, finish at 17 and 18 respectively to take the Walker Park Junior Open win at four under (gross score of 68 shots), six shots clear from the chasing pack.

The best female player for the day was A-Division winner Deané Jansen with a gross score of 79 shots for her round.

The best nett-player from the A-Division was Jon Grobler. He returned to the clubhouse with a nett score of 70.

Sanele Mthombeni scored a hole-in-one.
