Delmas teams compete in the South African Carp Classic

Delmas Carp Anglers recently took part in a Specimen Carp Tournament.

The South African Carp Classic is a local Specimen Carp Tournament, from which anglers stand a chance to win a peg to compete in the World Carp Classic.

The event was held from Saturday, March 12 until Friday, March 18 at the Roodekoppies Dam, which is located on the Crocodile River near Brits in the North West.

During this year’s event, three teams from Delmas took part.

The Superior Carp Team consisted of Waldo Prinsloo, André van Rooyen and Tanya Pretorius.

Troy Clark, Johan Kemp and Pierre Kemp represented the Chunky Monkeys.

Anglers Paul van der Merwe, Kyle Robertson and Riaan van Staden competed for their team, Jurassic Carp.

Although not one of the teams managed to secure a place in the World Carp Classic event, they all agreed that it was a weekend filled with excitement and fun as well as a great angling experience and they will compete again.

Yet another team from Sundra, known as the Bearded Anglers competed in October 2020.

The three homeboys from Sundra managed to win the competition with a total weight of 41.06 kg.

As the winners of that year’s event, also held at the Roodekoppies Dam, they qualified as one of the teams to represent South Africa in France. (Streeknuus, December 4, 2020)

However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the event did not take place.

The Bearded Anglers, Geoffrey Marais, Jaco Cornelius and Franco Marais confirmed that the event will take place this year.

“We are super excited and will be leaving South Africa on September 19 to represent our country abroad,” said Geoffrey.
